General Objectives:
To establish a facility that would manage intellectual property (IP) assets, facilitate technology transfer, and serve as a conduit between the university and industry;
To provide a facility that will promote and support MSU-IIT's initiative in developing an innovation and entrepreneurial culture at the Institute;
To have a facility that would provide assistance in all areas related to IP and IP commercialization;
To rename the Intellectual Property Unit as the Knowledge and Technology Transfer Office;
To propose the organizational set-up of the KTTO and staffing requirements.
The KTTO is composed of three (3) units, the Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO), the Technology Transfer and Enterprise Unit (TTEU) and the Intellectual Property (IP) Legal.
The Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) will support IP creation and will take charge of IP protection. ITSOs were established by IPOPHL in coordination with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and ITSO operations were franchised to universities and research institutions. The concept of the ITSO was to strengthen the capacity of local institutions to access patent information and use the patent system to support IP creation and IP protection.
The Technology Transfer and Enterprise Unit (TTEU) will be responsible for IP management and the commercialization of IP assets.
The Intellectual Property (IP) Legal is responsible for the negotiation with our identified potential industries and crafting memorandum of understanding/agreements between the research institution and industry partners.
