Fostering and advancing innovative and entrepreneurial culture through effective and efficient protection, transfer, commercialization of MSU-IIT intellectual properties (IPs) and strategic partnerships to benefit society and promote economic development.
The KTTO will be the central resource and support hub for researchers and the external partners. It is an office that is responsible for IP protection, IP technology transfer, IP commercialization and IP management.
To achieve these missions in becoming a research university, the Knowledge and Technology Transfer Office (KTTO) of MSU-IIT has been working diligently according to the strategic goals:
Strengthen the leadership and governance of knowledge and technology transfer by determining the ownership of existing intellectual property rights and the existence of third-party rights and obligations
Foster an inspiring, engaging and vibrant entrepreneurial environment by assessing the market potential of inventions, identify suitable industry partners, negotiate the sale or licensing of patents, and provide support in obtaining spin-out or spin-off company status.
Active outreach to the society and industry and contribute to the building of entrepreneurship ecosystem by organizing educational activities, training and events to raise awareness of the protection of IPR and create opportunities for networking and outreach between entrepreneurs and researchers.
To strengthen knowledge dissemination and enhance the effectiveness of knowledge and technology transfer operations by providing substantial funding required in preparing and filing the IP application.
Strengthening the manpower support on commercialization
The KTTO is composed of three (3) units, the Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO), the Technology Transfer and Enterprise Unit (TTEU) and the Intellectual Property (IP) Legal.
The Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) will support IP creation and will take charge of IP protection. ITSOs were established by IPOPHL in coordination with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and ITSO operations were franchised to universities and research institutions. The concept of the ITSO was to strengthen the capacity of local institutions to access patent information and use the patent system to support IP creation and IP protection.
The Technology Transfer and Enterprise Unit (TTEU) will be responsible for IP management and the commercialization of IP assets.
The Intellectual Property (IP) Legal is responsible for the negotiation with our identified potential industries and crafting memorandum of understanding/agreements between the research institution and industry partners.
